Building global connections
Language is known to be something that can instantly connect individuals or groups. Being able to reach out to someone in their native language can have a profound impact. While this project does not aim for fluency, it aims to introduce young students to basic Hindi and Indian tradition and culture.
4 Lessons per year group are completed with the rough syllabus being:
Lesson 1: Introduction, saying hello, my name is...
Lesson 2: How are you? I'm good/bad/happy/hungry
Lesson 3: Thank you, goodbye
Lesson 4: Putting it all together!
While relatively simple, it allows for some exploration. With an emphasis on pronunciation and gestures (e.g. Hands together with namaste) it shows different ways of doing similar things in other cultures to their own. There is also an emphasis on any other cultures in the class, and also showcasing how they say similar things, once again promoting global understanding.
